Core Web Vitals that actually move rankings

Search engines now weigh real-world page experience heavily. But teams chase the wrong metrics - obsessing over a synthetic score while the field data that Google actually uses tells a different story.

The three that matter

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): get your hero content painted under 2.5s. Usually a hero image or web font is the culprit.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP): keep the main thread free so taps respond instantly. Ship less JavaScript.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): reserve space for images, embeds, and fonts so nothing jumps.

What we do first

We start with field data from the Chrome UX Report, not lab scores. Then we cut render-blocking resources, preload the LCP asset, and defer non-critical scripts. On a typical WordPress site that alone moves LCP from ~4s to under 2s.

The result is not just a green score - it is faster indexing, better rankings, and a measurable lift in conversions.
